History

1827
In 1827 the pub was called The Cross Inn, the landlord was David Phillips and he was still in The Cross Inn on the 1851 census along with his wife and 3 children. William died in 1863 and the pub was auctioned off.

1871
The 1871 census shows John Bevan as the owner. It was at this time he renamed the pub "The Califonrnian" following his return from the USA during the Gold Rush. By 1877 the pub was known as the B. V. Hotel and it is thought that the original building was demolished and this present one built in it's place. During his time as onwner of the pub, John Bevan advertised weekly in the Cambrian newspaper as "Dinners, Tea's and American Bowling Alley, Stables and Rooms".

1901
In 1901 John Jones was the licenced victualler along with his two spinster daughters. both daughters continued to run the pub after his death, Mary Jones was licenced as a hotel Keeper and were still the owners in 1911.
